Have you been thinking about registering your child for preschool? It's a very good idea, and I'm not just saying that because I run a preschool! Whether you enroll your child in BFP or another preschool, you are doing a wonderful thing for your child. In fact, in a Newsweek article about preschool, the author stated that "high-quality preschooling does more for a child's chances in school and life than any other educational intervention". I could not agree more with this statement.
The advantages children who attend preschool have as opposed to those who have never been in a classroom setting become huge when they enter kindergarten. The expectations placed on kids beginning school are tremendous. If you can give your child a leg up and send them to school ready and confident, you are way ahead of the game!
There are many benefits to attending preschool, but the first two that jump to my mind are the educational ones and the social ones. In the preschool environment, the children can learn colors, shapes, letters, numbers, writing, beginning sounds, conversational speech and so much more. They learn though practice and play. A far larger component, especially with the younger preschoolers (the 2's), is that they gain a huge amount of social skills. They learn sharing and turn taking, how to participate in circle time, how to stand in a line and how to follow simple directions. As an added bonus, they learn the ever important lesson that mommy (or daddy, or grandma or the sitter) always comes back and that school is a fun and safe place for them to learn and explore.
