About Us
Big Flats Preschool is located inside the Big Flats United Methodist Church. After morning arrival, the preschool is locked to provide a secure environment for the children. The non-sectarian preschool, founded in 1965, is a community outreach mission of the Church and is run on a daily basis by the Director and Preschool Staff. We also receive guidance from the Church’s Board of Trustees regarding the physical aspect of the preschool and the Church’s SPPR Committee regarding personnel issues.
About Our Programs
Big Flats Preschool offers programs to meet the varying needs of the early childhood years. Each age level engages in a combination of child initiated and teacher directed activities utilizing a theme based curriculum. The children enjoy free play, directed activities, circle time, snack time and center based play on a daily basis. In addition to our daily activities and field trips, we welcome outside instructors to provide additional enrichment activities in the areas of music, movement and storytelling. We align our program with the expectations for kindergarten entrance so that our graduates have the needed school readiness skills upon completion of the program.
The Two-Year-Old Program allows children to establish a sense of security and independence, explore their environment and begin peer relationships. We introduce basic concepts and engage the children in a variety of stimulating activities.
The Three-Year-Old Program is designed to promote expressive language development and give each child the opportunity to interact in both small and large group activities. We structure our time so each child can play, explore, and learn according to their own needs.
The Four-Year-Old Program takes into account the need for kindergarten readiness. Through play based and directed activities, we provide individual learning experiences that build confidence, promote learning and stimulate the growth of each child.
